I am planning to visit Darjeeling & Gangtok for 6-7 days in January next year. What should be my schedule and which places should I visit day wise?

At Gangtok

1 day you need for local site seeing as mentioned in the link below.

What are the best places for a tourist to see in Gangtok?

It will take one day to travel towards namchi that is south sikkim and to return.

One can visit west sikkim that is peling where one night stay is recommended to have morning view of kanchan jhunga.

Zuluk at east sikkim is a nice place with home stay.

Way to Tsamgo lake and Babamandir will depend upon road condition and usually take one day to visit from Gangtok.

Way to north sikkim to gurudongmar lake and zero point, which comprises of 3N/4D or 2N/3D also depend upon road condition.

From gangtok to darjeeling it will take few hours. One night stay at darjeeling to view sunrise at tiger hill and roam around near ghoom station, visit to zoological park at day time may complete your trip.

I would actually not recommend you to visit theses places in January. Well if you just wanna see snow its fine, but Darjeeling and Sikkim is more about the view – the hills, mountains, the greenery. Best time to visit these places is either May or during October – November, when the sky is very clear.

During Jan – it ll be very cold and foggy. If thats what you want you can go ahead. Pro tip – try to book the toy train from Sukna to Darjeeling, it ll be the best train ride of your life.

You start with Gangtok then either Kalimpong or Pelling and then darjeeling. Tsomgo lake in Gangtok and tiger hill in darjeeling are the essentials. Try not to attempt too many things. A walk around the mall in darjeeling or just whiling your time away in m.g marg, Gangtok is more pleasurable than trying to do some meaningless seven point sight seeing in either town. And remember one thing, Gangtok is much cleaner but darjeeling feels more like a hill station because it’s always cold.
